The European Research Council (ERC) has published a statement on the next Research Framework Programme (currently known as ‘FP10’) calling for double the budget in the next Multiannual Financial Framework
The ERC has been instrumental in fostering the creativity and innovation of Europe’s top scientists but with increasing global competition, it is crucial for Europe to maintain its competitive edge in science and technology.
To achieve this, the ERC is calling for the doubling of the money available for the Framework Programme within in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (the EU’s long-term budget). This will lead to increased collaboration and pan-European competition, crucial for Europe’s competitive edge in global science and technology.
The ERC’s current budget is €2 billion annually, but it needs a budget equivalent to around €5 billion per year to meet its full potential and have systemic effects throughout Europe.
