The Research Executive Agency (REA) has published the results of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks 2023 call, which closed on 28 November 2023.
From the 1066 proposals submitted to this call, REA will fund 128 doctoral programmes with a budget of €443 million which will in turn support and train 1900 doctoral students within and outside of academia. This corresponds to a success rate of 12%.
The successful 2023 MSCA Doctoral Network programmes will be implemented through international partnerships, involving 1413 organisations from 51 countries within Europe and beyond, including 551 private for-profit entities. The distribution of projects across evaluation panels is as follows:
- Engineering and ICT: 36.7%
- Life Sciences: 24.2%
- Chemistry: 12.5%
- Environment and Geosciences: 7.8%
- Social sciences and Humanities: 8.6%
- Physics: 7.8%
- Mathematics: 1.6%
- Economics: 0.8%

REA has confirmed that the results of the MSCA Doctoral Networks 2023 call have officially been announced, with letters sent to all applicants informing them of the outcome.
Successful MSCA DN 2023 proposals submitted with UK host organisations will be funded under the UK Horizon Europe Guarantee, as all Horizon Europe 2023 calls remain implemented under the transitional measures. The UKRI guarantee grant submission system is expected to open soon.
The next call for MSCA Doctoral Networks is scheduled to open on 29 May 2024, with a deadline of 27 November 2024. From the 2024 calls onwards, the UK will be fully eligible to apply as an Associated Country and receive funding directly from the European Commission.
